Have you worked for a principal like this? (excerpt from novel in progress Going Educational © 2013, 2014)
“Smile We Love You.” was written on that sign by the
students at John
Stennis High
School , where Dr. Paul Handy is
the new principal. He was uploading the picture to his facebook page. He’d put
a comment below it “Born to be a leader baby. First day of school.” And his
friends, who were mostly gathered from his Educational Seminars, would comment about how inspiring he is. In his career
of twenty five years he’s been head principal at ten different schools. Seven
of those schools became successful. He did great things and worked many after
hours. He also did immoral things to get his impressive credentials. “Immoral”
depending on whose point of view. When new teachers fresh out of college came
to his school he harassed them to see what they were made of.
He’d send his assistant Principals into these teachers
classrooms to take over their lessons. He’d criticize them in public. He’d send
his tenure teachers to warn these teachers, “You better straighten up. You have
many eyes on you.” If the new teachers showed fear or sadness he’d keep going.
He’d blame the new teachers when the students misbehaved. Then he’d tell the
teachers who resigned and that he forced to resign that he’d be a great
reference. Yet when a would be employer called he’d give slanderous
accusations. Then he’d justify his actions with an affirming, “Children first.”
A phrase he’d force the staff to say many times a day. If new teachers had
students that were failing he’d force them to resign.
