“Chasing Down The Devil With God Chasing Me On this Trail” lyrical piece was born one evening at SynergyNights many weeks prior. I was in a bit of a depression. The night’s performers started off with kinky and lewd rhymes, also there were protest rhymes. Then around 10:15 pm the atmosphere changed with highly spiritual themes. Even a couple preacher’s rocked the mic and I thought to myself, “God is making him/herself present to me always reminding me there is an easier way. Always reminding me to keep pressing on and let go of resentments, anger, fear and the other seven deadly sins that I tend to act out on that get me in such trouble. Like “…all the lies I tell myself that are is the distance between me and you.”-this rhyme I created is universal in its creed. Lies such as stereotypes, and creating reasons why people do the things they do-they do these things to harm me. The examples are infinite as time itself.
