Crossing the line: “Ain’t Hot Yet; Just Getting Warmer.”
“Ain’t Hot Yet; Just Getting Warmer.”
#CheckpointCharlie’s Sunday 6 March 2016
My head phones plugged into the back of my amp allows me to
get prepared to rock while I wait to go on stage. Last time I played here the
whole crowd was gone after I performed. You know that’s the Blues “Blues is
when you play a couple of songs on your guitar and you’re the only one left in
the bar.” –Where’s My Groupie link.
Had five on the list before me. Plenty of time.

Learning to stand up when I perform is a bit of a challenge.
My selfi’s have rock star personification. Time to live up to it. Practiced
this un’ for about 4 hours this week.
It took me about a minute to set up my rig (portable Roland Cube
amp and my Ibanez).
Started with a riff I created back in Clarksdale around 2007. Added lyrics to it at
the last SynergyNights link. The main hook of the lyrics came from an old
journal I wrote in during my drunken days. “Do you dare step outside yourself
and see all there is to see.”
Strummed open strings and did a small bend transitioning to my
Door’s cover Break On Through
.
After the line “The Gate is straight deep and wide,” I went
into the Eddie and the Cruisers ( song by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band )
joint On the Darkside. Found the main
riff months ago while strumming a Jimmy Reed riff and the set of lyrics repeats
over and over again-I went through em’ twice. Ended back to the original piece,
“Do you dare step outside yourself see all there is to see. You can be free.
All these lies that we tell ourselves are true is the distance between me and
you. But I got all these fears-We can’t stop here.”performance from Checkpoint Charlies
They clapped, more people came in the bar. It’s getting
better. “I removed my sun glasses, “Now I can see again.”
In the process I wrote a new jam
for The #JulepRoom Will You Dance In The
Rain?
