blocking (C) August 2019 Chapter 8 promo The House Of Bacchus
Years ago, The Owner was in prison, in a town only known by the
numbers 1125137676.
The prison was close to St. Francesville, Louisiana. His room mate Oliver only
speaks ‘God talk’. Meaning that he only says biblical scriptures, and
incoherent speech with the word Jesus, or Jehovah after every other word. They
have been assigned to clean up the prison’s graveyard. On this particular day,
Oliver was in pain from being assaulted by a prisoner, Isaac.
The Owner was removing weeds from gravestones. After several minutes he
noticed that he didn’t hear Oliver. “Oliver?” The Owner whispered to himself.
“Where are you?” The Owner stood up saying it more like an order to whatever
entity could be in the wind.
After several minutes of looking, he found Oliver was kneeled in front
of the statue of Jesus. The statue was covered with thorns and weeds. Jesus was
in the middle of the graveyard. The Owner didn’t know what to do. He didn’t
know how to help Oliver. He looked at the face of Jesus. Then he remembered something
he heard once, “ I still have things in my life that block me from my Higher
Power. A Higher Power, I call ‘God.’ These things blocking me are intertwined
with my selfishness. It is those moments when I act out.” Then The Owner became
overjoyed. He realized he was concerned about someone other than himself. Maybe
he could be saved by helping others. There was hope in that The Owner was
realizing that he had the capacity to make a positive change in society. He
looked on the ground by Oliver, at his tools.
“Oliver.” Oliver couldn’t hear him. The Owner then placed his hand on
Oliver’s shoulder.
“We have work to do,” The Owner said.
“We do?” Oliver asked, looking up. His eyes were blood shot from crying.
“Oliver that’s the first time you didn’t sound crazy,” The Owner stated as he
stepped up to Jesus. The Owner started cutting the thorns from the face of
Jesus. “Maybe I deserved it,” Oliver whined looking up at the face of Jesus. “Some
would say Jesus paid the price for us. Then The Owner closed his eyes,
“Oliver,” he pleaded to whatever entity was among them. Then he felt peace.
Oliver stood up and looked at the face of Jesus. Started cutting the weeds, and
thorns from Jesus feet.
Many minutes later, he looked up at the now clean Jesus. It was amazing
how Jesus looked with the weeds and thorns removed from him. The Owner remembered
that he had heard from someplace that when someone makes a decision to take a
positive action the devil will always come to try to get that someone from
doing good.
