A stamp to mail my mind away (C) 2022 Pt 1

The debauchery started with cases of imported beer; because, “I’m not an alcoholic if I’m drinking the good stuff,” he reasoned and often said trying to justify, trying to sound amusing. They had enough weed to keep them high.  He also had a ten strip of LSD “To open their minds,”. There was a picture of a purple skull on each hit. The townhouse he rented was featured in by Gulf Coast magazines. The townhouse was also in a couple famous movies a long time ago. There were rumors that famous musicians would hang out there before it was renovated.  There were pieces of furniture that were from before the time of renovation.

The musicians hanging there is what made the house so attractive to Peter.

“It’s no coincidence that there’s this room in the middle connecting all rooms. It’s like how a pentagram shape is in Washington D.C."

“You need to stop or at least slowdown,” Jude interrupted Peter. He had been around Peter long enough to know that he needed to pace himself. “You better slow down. We have four hours to wait until we start this thing. After the four hours wait to leave, it was at least four hours , for a normal person to drive to Clarksdale. For a group of partiers, it could take up to six hours. Peter joked about wanting to get there at two in the morning, to get to the exact location to meet Legba.

Catalina pulled up in her white nearly new sports utility vehicle. It was big enough to take them all to the Mississippi Delta. Catalina became friends with Peter in junior high school. They used to get stoned together. They took Mrs. Lawrence’s class. Mrs. Lawrence liked to write thought provoking quotes on her chalk board. On one particular day she wrote a quote on the board by John Milton, “The mind is a place within itself, and in it one can make a Heaven out of hell or a hell out of heaven.” After Mrs. Lawrence had written the quote, Peter was quick to be the class clown, like always. He said in an imitation of Tom Hank’s Forest Gump’s character voice, “Stupid is as stupid does, mam.” And the whole class laughed. Catalina decided in that moment that Peter would be a kewl stoner friend. She invited him to her “Kewl Kids Gathering” on Friday night at a place called The Shed. Her musician friends jammed in the shed. The Shed was in the backyard of Renny Woodard’s parents. It was a way for his parents to keep an eye on him. Renny loved it because all the kewl kids came. He also got to play drums whenever he felt like it. His parents were too naïve to notice all of the booze and drugs that would come in and out of The Shed.

“Well, here we are,” Catalina’s boyfriend said. He was sure to make his voice sound as unenthused as possible. H

“Baby don’t be like that,” she said with a giggle in her voice. Yea, Catalina was attracted to her boyfriend by his oh so serious demeaner. It made her feel safe that she could do whatever she wanted and he would stop her from hurting herself. Of course, he would be the designated driver.

“Cat girl. What’s your purring about? Peter said playfully as he came down the stairs. He had met Catalina’s boyfriend before. He knew that he was a jealous type. Peter wrapped both of his hands around her. Then lifted her off of the ground.

“Whoa,” the boyfriend said as he got out of the car.
