100 Love Letters I'll Never Send (Is God listening?) (c) 2017
He had not heard from her in weeks. He almost had her ridden from his mind-that’s what he told himself. She called needing him, he had his last check in the mail from getting fired. “This has got to be a sign from God.” Is he delusional?
“I’m going to go get her,” I said trying to
sound like I was giving a command. Yet, he knew I was asking for his approval.
“Oh yea?”
“I got enough money for us to make a new
start.”
“Oh yea?” To be honest, I was looking for his
advice. I knew this wasn’t a good idea.
“Well,” he pauses. He’s
playing a head game.
The pause is enough
for me to remember what he told me in the beginning, ““First
it’s going to be great. You are going to go on dates. She’ll say anything you
want to hear. Bate you in. She’ll tell you that no man has ever made her feel
this way. There’s that uncertainty involved. You don’t know whether the other
one wants you are not. You’ll treat her too good, because in your mind, you’re
making up for how bad you treated the last one. You’ll have good meetings with
her family. Why? Because they’ll be relieved for someone else to take care of
her. They’ll be happy to get her out of their house. She’ll be the perfect girlfriend
to your friends and family. Then she’ll slowly start doing things to get rid of
you because she knows she has you. You’ll find yourself doing things you told
yourself you’d never do just to hold onto something that is gone.”
“…and so for a few seconds the phone line is
so silent that I’m only hearing electrical fuzz of the connection. I’m
wondering if the Loh’Rd is listening. After all they do say that the evidence
of God is electricity. page 36.
“Well son, let me know how that turns out for
you,” hangs up.
