It was seven years and seven days later...

I returned to the coast after so many years of being away. After a few months a storm came bearing your name.

August 31, 2005:

One day I stopped running but the hell I created kept going. Like looking in the mirror and not knowing what's looking back. Time is lost in the gaps of memories; all the missing you's, all the missing me's.

"Baby please."

They told me to leave when the storm comes I'd get killed. I stayed couldn't resist to call her one more time and tell her how I feel. The winds knocked down power lines electricity sparked laughter. To call her up; what would it really matter after all this time.  

"If I could start over I'd be the man you wanted me to be back then." That was so long ago.
"Baby I've changed."

The winds screamed her name "Katrina."
"Baby I've changed." 

I hear trains; tornadoes. Her wicked winds blow. She cast a shadow I look outside my window. It's night at noon. Trees fall on to our old bed in the bedroom.

One day I stopped running but the hell I created kept going. Like looking in the mirror and not knowing what's looking back. Time is lost in the gaps of memories; all the missing you's, all the missing me's.

 Water through the cracks.

"I never forgot your number. I wonder if you remember me. I may not know what love is. I do know what it is not."

The water will turn bloody red when the pipes burst letting the rust in.

I still have my cell phone. I make that call. The number has been disconnected unknown. Is it like what they say, 'When you love something let it alone?'
I don't think she could do much for me now anyway.

 “Dude, look at the way you live Like in a hovel,” his friend Carlton told him about a year ago. At that time, he was living in a two-bedroom apartment. “…that’s more like a compartment. You really think you gonna attract any kind of female?” “What about you, living in that tin can?” Tin can was what he called Carlton’s trailer home. Carlton always seemed to have the right answer, “I don’t really care dude. You’re the one always talking about being alone.” Carlton said. Then took a sip of his beer. He had cleaned up a little bit. Mid 2017: (c) 2017 I have subjected myself to needless misery. In the past I have taken everything as personal insult. Why? I think I did it to protect myself from being hurt. Not too long ago, I criticized online dating. Now that I am on an online dating site I think I have broken through lies I have told myself. I wonder if anyone else has told themselves these lies: There's no one out there for me. Why does this always happen to me? Girls won't like me once they know the real me. I am discovering that people need people. I am going out with several different women and realize it's not a personal jab if we don't meet again. All it means is we just don't mesh well. I must look at women like I would friends. Neediness, emotional blackmail and such isn't conducive to a happy productive life. When I told myself such lies I acted out on them.
