Open Mic log "They call me Holmes." Created this song while driving in blinding rain....

It was Friday, November 6, 2015 at the Jackson Convention Complex. Jackson live 2015There were about four hundred musical artist, most from Jackson. All of them with hopes of winning the show. There were big shots there like Black Elvis and Yung Joc. There was even a panel of record executives.

I got brave and did this performance. Click here to view. Damn, I watch it now. Not very stellar. I felt my best friend's spirit there with the rain pouring outside.  Seeing the rain helped my stage fright.  I knew him all my life. He died in 2014. He would keep me going and logical. I miss him. The reason I felt his spirit might have been because of this click hereCharles' music

When I left the event I was driving on I-55 and the rain got so bad I couldn't see the road. Said to myself, "DAMN EVERYTHING FALLS LIKE RAIN." I looked at my car ignition and remembered how I broke the ignition of the last car I owned by having too many keys on my key chain. That thought led to me thinking about the times I got angry with My LohRd for not answering prayers I thought I wanted.

"I got a hundred keys that won't open any doors. Got cracks in the floor where I pray. Got whirl winds whispering in my ears telling me, 'The end is near.' But you keep saying there's nothing to fear."

The second part was inspired by Bob Dylan lyrics from "Highway 61 revisited." lyric "I got a hundred telephones."

In the rain I thought about all those times I waited by my phone for her to call. She/he never calls-you know the feeling. Then I thought about criticism I have gotten over the years.

"Got this expensive ass telephone that never rings. At least I downloaded ten thousand songs but you know no body really sings. You got all these degress, phds but son you don't know uh damn thing."

With the thought of how the lines of reality and television have been blurred.

"Is this real life or showbiz. People got all these Clocks but they still don't know what time it is."

Weeks later I performed the spoken word version at SynergyNights Click here to see it.  #SynergyNights is  the best openmic venue in Jackson Mississippi.

I added the last verse later after being told I should make the song longer.

"Baby you got more issues than magazine subscriptions. Got me begging like a hound dog for your attention."

Tonight, January 28, 2017, I figured I do the guitar part I put to it. It was a bit frightening to play it standing up. To get passed my fright I told myself, "Men stand up when they play guitar. They don't squat like a girl does when she pees."

It was special to me because #SynergyNights has helped me create many of the songs I do now.

Here is the extended version check it out
