Byrning Notes XLVII (Lady of Death, Papa Legba, and broken cars) © 2015

Found from a reliable source. Bob, former manager at the Blues Museum, talked with HoneyBoy Williams link that Tommy Johnson sold his soul. All Robert Johnson was trying to do hitch a ride to the next time to perform. I heard the same out of Robert Plant link He told me that Robert Johnson disappeared for a while to practice. Probably practiced with add in. When he came back some one said, “He played so good like the devil was possessing him."

Lucky me, my car broke down in my driveway in Clarksdale (2011). when I came back from Arizona. I came back with many things among these things was the La Santisima Muerta candle.

Did further investigation of the La Santisima Muerta. Found out it was a cult that had its roots in Catholicism. Much like how Voodoo, took Saints from Catholicism and turned them into gods. Found out that criminals and folks in desperate situations pray to this goddess of death. Found it relevant to include La Santisima Muerta with Blues, Faustian likehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faust, mythology of Tommy Johnson selling his soul to Papa Legba Papa_Legba at the cross roads. Did a video on the La Santisisma Muerta https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Muerte

Shamefully, it was angst to be without a car. I improvised by running to Walmart and buying a Mongoose mountain bike. Went around town on that bike or by foot. Couldn’t seem to get help from anyone. It was quite ridiculous; for there is always a reason to be grateful. I was self-supporting, had my own place to live, had a job. Regardless I felt bitter that no one would help me. If they needed help I would have helped them. Not everyone lives by the same code of ethics. My cousin’s husband, they are more like my aunt and uncle, who lives in Oxford, and my Army roommate from AIT via phone, helped me get that Yarris from Memphis. This was my second car that I bought on my own. When you are spending $800. here, $1200. there to fix your car. It is cheaper to pay monthly on a newer car.
